The World is Sound- Dub Mission
As part of our San Francisco spotlight, The World is Sound team checked in with the DUB MISSION crew who have been running their dub inspired weekly club night for 20 years (!) Jef Stott chats with DJ Sep, Vinnie and Maneesh the Twister for insight into their long running event which has been crucial to the SF music scene for two decades.
From the very beginning, Dub Mission was focused on modern and classic dub, roots reggae and killer dancehall making it a rare sort of reggae party. Luckily this period of time has also coincided with a great resurgence of interest in dub music through onstage performances and re-issues.
Artists and DJs from all over the world and the U.S. have performed at Dub Mission. A partial list includes The Scientist, Adrian Sherwood & ON-U Sound System, Mad Professor & Ariwa Sound System, Mungo’s Hi Fi Sound System with Soom T & Solo Banton, Prince Fatty’s Sound System, Tippa Irie & Saxon Sound System, Zion Train, Overproof Sound System, DJ Vadim, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Twilight Circus Dub Sound System (Holland), Florian Seyberth of Boozoo Bajou (Germany), Dubblestandart (Austria), Pitch Black (New Zealand), Yossi Fine of Ex-Centric Sound System (Israel) and Addis Pablo (Jamaica). Some of the American artists who have played Dub Mission include Nickodemus of Turntables on the Hudson, Subatomic Sound System, dr Israel, Jahdan Blakkamoore, Tino Corp with Jack Dangers &, Ben Stokes, Dubtribe Sound System and many others.
